Annual Cleaning as a Minimum Standard

Water tanks should be cleaned at least once a year, according to the majority of health experts and water tank cleaning specialists. This is the bare minimum required to avoid organic matter, silt accumulation, and microbiological contamination.

  • Smart Water

The majority of tank cleaning experts advise having your tank professionally cleaned and maintained at least once a year, however others may claim that every two to three years is acceptable. Some people prefer to have their tanks cleaned every six months, particularly if they are the primary source of water for your home and the water you use for cooking and drinking.

Twice-Yearly Cleaning for High-Risk or High-Usage Tanks

In areas with high water usage, frequent contamination, or where the tank is the primary source of drinking water, cleaning every six months is strongly advised. This is particularly relevant in Pune’s hot and humid climate, where tanks are more prone to algae and bacterial growth  .

  • Safe Water Tech

Cleaning home water tanks at least once or twice a year is often advised. Determining whether more frequent cleaning is required can be aided by routine examination of the tank’s inside and water quality.

Special Considerations

  • Tank Material: Steel and plastic tanks can live a little longer (one to two years) if the water quality is good, but concrete tanks may need to be cleaned more frequently (every six to twelve months) because of their vulnerability to microbial development and cracking.
  • Environmental Factors: Tanks that are situated in dusty areas, receive a lot of rain, or are exposed to sunshine may require more frequent cleaning.
